Russian Railways have reported a 13.1% year-on-year increase in rail container traffic for January-September 2023.  All in all, 5.4 mn TEU was carried during the period under report. Domestic container traffic grew by 16.6% up to 2.19 mn TEU.Laden container traffic made more than 4 mn TEU, up 17.6% year-on-year.

Commodity-wise, containerized grain grew the most, up 2.8-fold to 77.8 thousand TEU.  Vehicles and parts were up 2.2-fold to 341.9 thousand TEU, and chemical and mineral fertilizers up 2.1-fold to 194.9 thousand TEU. Meal and flour increased 1.8-fold to 15.5 thousand TEU, potatoes, vegetables and fruit 1.4-fold to 11.4 thousand TEU.

Machinery, engines and equipment were up 24.2% to 317.2 thousand TEU, construction cargo up 22.7% to 164.6 thousand TEU, oil and products up 17.6% to 68.6 thousand TEU, and other food products up 29.3% to 229 thousand TEU.

Other commodities demonstrated a negative trend.
