China-Europe Freight Train Operation Updates (Week 9)

Date of release:2024-03-11 Author: Click:

On February 19, RTSB issued a statement saying that due to strong winds and severe cold weather, the efficiency of transshipment operations at the two ports of "Alashankou - Dostyk" and "Khorgos - Altynkol" was reduced, and many containers were detained here, with an average of 7-14 days. The reloading time of northern border and central border has been extended, and the handling time of Manzhouli and Erenhot has exceeded one week, generally 6-12 days.

With therecovery of the rail transport , the volume of goods transported by rail to Europe has increased significantly. Stations such as Brest and Mala have seen queues waiting to enter, coupled with weather factors, resulting in delays in reloading.

The supply of spaces and freight rates for each route are as follows:

European route:

The Red Sea-Suez Canal shipping route has been rerouted on a large scale, and international logistics channels have been affected as a result. The most obvious manifestation of this incident on China-Europe freight trains is the substantial increase in container rental prices and the increase inspace prices released by platforms and agents.

WB: Space prices at various stations were stable this week. Different from the monthly price changes in Chengdu, Chongqing, and Xi'an, Changsha and Jinan raised their prices in the second half of this month, with an increase of about US$300-400. After January 11, space from Xi'an to Duisburg is being released, and the express trains are fully booked. The Zhengzhou and Chengdu platforms are also opening bookings.

EB: In January, the loading stations for return trains from Europe to Chengdu have been confirmed, and cargo can be loaded at Marasevic, Tilburg, Nuremberg, Duburg Hamburg, Budapest, and Milan. Besides,Yiwu, Dalian, Chongqing, Hefei, and Changsha all have eastbound trains on running, and the schedule is intensive in the middle and late month. In the middle of  January, the space capacity for eastbound flights from Liege, Warsaw, Munich, and Katowice to Zhengzhou has been tightened, however, there are still some space can be found.

Russian route:

The demand is weak, and the cargo volume is relatively low.In January, the space was released in mid-to-late January, and head platforms have more capacity. Spot freight rates remain stable, with some fluctuations on individual routes: freight rates from Zengcheng, Datian, Chengdu, Xi'an to Moscow and St. Petersburg have increased by US$50. Space in January have been released in mid-to-late.

Central Asia route:

The supply and demand are stable, and the overall supply of space is sufficient. There is still plenty of space available this month.
