In January-August 2023, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increased by 29.5% year-on-year to make 610.7 thousand units.
In August 2023, new cars and light commercial vehicles sales in the Russian market surged 2.3-fold year-on-year amounting to 111.3 thousand units. Month-on-month growth was 10.9%. Most of the Top 5 car brands in Russia saw their sales grow.
Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in August 2023 with its sales up 84.2% year-on-year to 33.3 thousand units. China’s Haval remained the second with 11.2 thousand units sold, up 3.7-fold year-on-year. Russia’s GAZ commercial vehicles rated the third with 5.3 thousand units sold, up 81.4% year-on-year. One more Chinese brand Tank, a crossover division of Great Wall, is in the fifth position with its sales making 1.7 thousand units, same as in July.
Most of the brands sold in the Russian market demonstrated a negative trend in August 2023, the few exceptions apart from the brands in the Top 5 being China’s FAW (up 6.2-fold), GAC (up 5.2-fold), and Great Wall (up 3.5-fold).
