On 31st May, Japan Maritime Center released a report on Asian Container export to America for April. The data shows that outbound freight container volumes from 18 Asian countries to the US dropped 17.9% YoY to 1,543,889 TEUs in Apr. In the first 4 months this year, Asian export to US dropped 25.2% YoY to 5,540,313 TEUs.
Below are the details of declined numbers in different regions:
China:17.3% YoY to 859,000 TEUs, Taiwan: -23.9% YoY to 56,000 TEUs,
ASEAN: -22.9% to 353,000 TEUs, South Asia Countries: -24.6% to 103 TEUs.
Moreover, it has to be noticed that container export volumes from Asia to America has shown a YoY declining trend for 8 consecutive months.
Reportedly, the export of many major commodities collapsed, including vegetables, grains, fruits, oilseed, tee etc. Down 62.9% to 22,513 TEUs, toys and sporting goods down 32% to 61,554 TEUs, furniture and bedding etc. Down 30% to 260,070 TEUs; textile products down 28.7% to 121,822 TEUs.
