MSC Set to Make History as First Global Liner Company to Surpass 5 Million TEU Capacity

According to Alphaliner, MSC currently controls a fleet of 753 vessels (owned and chartered), with total capacity reaching 4,956,720 TEU. In addition, MSC is expected to receive two more ships, MSC MICHEL CAPPELLINI and MSC GEMMA, with a maximum capacity of 24,000 TEU each, from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

This means that MSC may achieve this milestone by the end of this month, becoming the first shipping company globally to reach a capacity of over 5 million TEU. However, MSC is not stopping there. Alphaliner predicts that with 127 vessels on order worth a combined capacity of 1.66 million TEU, MSC will further increase its capacity to 6 million TEU by mid-2024.
